about

Debut 6 Song EP from In Sepia.

Collective-zine (UK)
I probably should have reviewed the new Arrows album before this, but hey, lets go wild! In Sepia is a new, Australian indie / emo band, who I assume were very much inspired onto their current path by the aforementioned Arrows, given that they deal in a similar kind of music. And that kind of music is the kind of music most suited to this time of year, when you drive home to that a----ch----ing----ly l----oooo-----nnn----g s----on----g... although In Sepia certainly don't dawdle into getting to their next note to quite the same extent as Brer Simpson. There are six songs on here, and In Sepia generally pile the pretty, repetitious guitar part on top of the rhythm, and sing with desperation. Yes, Power of Failing is clearly the touchstone for this record, but it's been fuck knows how long since Mineral dropped that bombshell, and the world is ready for the new batch. This is still a pretty raw collection of songs, there are a few moments where you ponder why they did things like they did, yet for the most part this is bloody lovely, mate. The vocals are excellent, and I am a constant sucker for bands that get their spiralling, end of the world guitars going whilst maintaining a high level of prettiness. I am highly impressed by In Sepia, it just makes me wish that a band in the UK would have a go at this sort of thing, but not fuck it up royally, by being influenced by, say, Brandtson, or Explosions in the Sky, instead of just getting on with making good music (Andy Malcolm).
